I recently had to do a fresh install of XP because my other hd died. I'm using SP2, fully updated. I went and tried to install my printer (Lexmark something or other) and had to download the drivers from the net because the disc was broken. I tried going into the control panel > printers > add printer > the wizard thing would come up, I'd hit next...and boom. The pc would reboot, and once booted a message would come up saying that windows has recovered from a serious error, sent in the report ...

I've been thinking about dumping Norton AntiVirus because it hogs a lot of ram and I've noticed a lot of people saying it's just crap. AVG was one recommendation and I've downloaded the free version but haven't installed it yet. I've been using Norton for years so I've gotten accustomed to it. How does AVG compare in terms of features, processes running, resource use? Can AVG be set to scan once a week at a certain time? Email scan, auto-protect, automatic virus definition updates, etc? ...

I'm using an ATi Radeon 9600xt AGP 8x 256mb video card on Windows XP Pro SP2 on EPoX EP-8KRAIPRO Socket A (Socket 462) VIA KT880 ATX AMD Motherboard. Ever since I installed the card and mobo, when I reboot my monitor doesn't power back on (not just *this* monitor, my uncle's CRT didn't come back on either). I can't figure out why the monitor doesn't come back on, I have to do it manually. It will go into what I guess is sleep mode and just stays that way. I have to turn it off and turn it back o...

*I am not anti-MS in anyway, but this is just plain funny* The District Attorney's office sends out a "Letter of the Law" newspaper every month via email, and in January's edition I found an article quite amusing. We've all had to deal with cryptic Windows error messages, but some anonymous individuals decided to transform some of these common messages into Haiku form. Your file was so big. It might be very useful. But now it is gone. The Web site you seek Cannot be located, but ...

One very important word in computing: backup. Needless to say I've been pretty slacking with backups, and I'm looking for a way to make it easier. This is what I'd like to do: create mirrors of a few folders onto another drive, and when I add new files/subfolders to these folders, the utility will automatically copy them into the respective location on the other drive. Example: I download more pictures from my camera to my pictures/random, the utility will then automatically copy thos...

I was looking at this cool flickr set and saw how neatly the cables were organized and up off the floor, looked down at my own attempt at organizing and thought...ok I seriously need to do something about this. I tried labeling some of the cables and tying up some of the excess cabling...but it feels like an exercise in futility. Not to mention makes it really difficult to clean under there (doh). And as for that hole in the desk brace thing...yeah I tried that too, then all t...

Ever since I decided to clean up my mess of cables I decided it might be time to replace my $14 slim wired keyboard with a wireless one. Problem is...my list of things that I want seems to be difficult to find in a wireless keyboard. As mentioned, I prefer the slim, scissor-switch type keys, and also some multimedia keys (play, pause, switch tracks, stop) but I *don't* need some huge gaming keyboard that'll take up half my desk. I went over to Staples and saw the Microsoft Wiresless L...

I recently hooked up an external Acer 23" monitor to my laptop (set as the single display) and now the laptop nor monitor will go to sleep anymore. I have the screensaver set to come on after 10 mins, monitor to sleep after 15, and harddrive to sleep after 20. Right now the only thing working is the screensaver. All the power options are set the same and I'm stumped. HP dv6748us laptop, always plugged in (battery not installed), options set to "do nothing when lid closes" (external is now...

Hey guys, I was wondering if someone could help me with creating a Stylish script. Nothing extravagant, I just want a script to replace font A with font B universally on all websites. Does anyone know how to code that? Thanks.

Heya guys, I was wondering if someone could help me convert a transparent png to a vector image. I tried doing it myself in Illustrator, but because the image has some white in it, it's deleting it from the vector. I've tried changing the white in the original psd, but I'm having a hard time with it. If someone is willing to help out the n00b here, I can provide the psd. Thanks!

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone would be willing/able to help me with a graphics request. I'm looking to have this style image recreated to a seamless repeatable pattern I can use in Photoshop. (It's the Deathly Hallows symbol.) I'm looking for it to be (light) teal and brown, instead of gray. Thanks!
