I was looking at this cool flickr set and saw how neatly the cables were organized and up off the floor, looked down at my own attempt at organizing and thought...ok I seriously need to do something about this.

I tried labeling some of the cables and tying up some of the excess cabling...but it feels like an exercise in futility. Not to mention makes it really difficult to clean under there (doh). And as for that hole in the desk brace thing...yeah I tried that too, then all the cables coming through it kept getting in my way and got kicked a lot, that thing is worthless.

So...do any of you have a better system? Worse? Show us your organized chaos and share your tips and solutions, because I'm sure this is an area we could all use a little help with.

And Its Vacuumed

LOL yes...I tried vacuuming in the first shots, but with all the cables in the way it made it a bit difficult.

Very nice!!!!!!!

I think I might try that with my desk.

It's little harder with a glass desk.

Got a mess here as well, lol. Plenty of stuff plugged into all of the USB ports and a USB hub, and my room is also the center of our home network and where the internet comes in. It's a pretty big mess, but somehow I manage to keep most of it behind my computer. Except the USB hub, where I have my iPod, card reader, and flash drive connected. And the charger for my "wireless" mouse. And my Skype phone. *sigh*.

Nicely done Steph.   Looks a lot better.

Here's another neat, affordable and simple way of organizing cables at the back.  With a little imagination and tinkering I'm sure that could be improved.  I've seen a bunch of cool DIY ideas floating around; I guess it's just a matter of using a little creativity and elbow-grease.

Our little puppy at home decided he would chew up the audio cables going into my subwoofer the other day.      It didn't look like he was doing anything silly while he was down there so I didn't think anything of it.  Then I noticed my speakers weren't working at all.
Luckily, he only damaged the 3.5mm stereo cables that can be easily replaced, and not the actual power or speaker cables.  Gawd... if he'd started chewing the power cable...!!

And this is how mine looks now...sometimes better, sometimes a lot worse!!

mine and my partners computers sit side by side and i decided to clean up the cables by first using twist ties to group them altogether, then leaving enough room at either end for connections i got a large diameter hose and put a split down it, then i fed all the tied cables into the split, then tied the hose back together. now all i have under the large desk we use is 2 power boards with all the plugs in them and then some very neat looking hose which i have attached to the wall with adhesive clips.
