Cute and cuddly Spawn of Satan.
I'm using an ATi Radeon 9600xt AGP 8x 256mb video card on Windows XP Pro SP2 on EPoX EP-8KRAIPRO Socket A (Socket 462) VIA KT880 ATX AMD Motherboard. Ever since I installed the card and mobo, when I reboot my monitor doesn't power back on (not just *this* monitor, my uncle's CRT didn't come back on either). I can't figure out why the monitor doesn't come back on, I have to do it manually. It will go into what I guess is sleep mode and just stays that way. I have to turn it off and turn it back on. The power settings in the desktop properties are all set to never.

Any ideas how to fix it so that it will just power itself back on?

Personally....I'd be waiting for more suggestions from yrag.....

Any minute now he will say....

"Hey Bebi...give that computer back to Jafo....he's obviously had it at one time...and now it'll never be right again".

Seriously....he's probably blowing up another machine to replicate your problem...so as to solve it....

Did that...no joy. My problems just won't go away. I just installed the software for my new LifeCam and a while later my pc just rebooted again (not sure if it's related), but there was no error report when it came back on. And what do you know? That damn .cfg and NFO crap was back again! Not only that but the hidden tray icon settings that I had setup seem to have been wiped out, so I did yet another restore and we'll see how long it lasts this time til something borks again.

what's the full name of the nfo file? where is it located? (try runnin a search for *.nfo if you're unable to locate it any other way.) when you find it browse there with windows explorer, select and right click on it so you can open it with notepad. if what you see makes no sense to you, copy the entire thing and paste it here.

do you have another vid card available?

The NFO error doesn't say anything other than "This NFO file cannot be opened blah blah" and that's after the System Info dialog pops up. Don't have a clue what is trying to open the file, or what the file is. Same thing with the .cfg file notice.

At this point I'm not too worried with the monitor not coming back on, it's just an annoyance (unless there actually *is* something worse going on). It's these stop error reboots and other issues that are getting to me.

Once I start getting some income I plan to do a full system upgrade and replace all this hardware, but that won't be an option for a while yet. *sigh*

An update: figured out the nfo and cfg stuff; I goofed and copied the speedfan.exe into startup instead of just a shortcut to it. Sorted all that out.

Monitor still doesn't come on, but oh well. Not too concerned about it.

On another note...my E drive disappeared, seems my IDE controller card decided to kick the bucket or something because the drive itself is fine. Had to unhook the D to hookup the E (5 devices all together, hence the controller card). Next step: replace those two drives with a huge SATA drive.
